The government ordered the rally called by the church not to take place!
In a statement issued by the Security and Safety Joint Task Force on the current security situation, it called the peaceful demonstration of the church on February 5, 2015 as illegal.
In a statement issued this evening, the task force stated that it has assessed the current situation in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
He said that he firmly believes that efforts to resolve the dispute will be done only through peaceful means.
In this regard, he said, “I was able to confirm that the fathers of the faith called for an illegal procession on the same day and place, and that agitations are being made to create an opportunity to take the lives of citizens and other conflict-inciting activities are being carried out.” The task force said that the demonstrations are held under the guise of religion and are illegal demonstrations and said, “It is known that there is no demonstration authorized by the relevant body, and the society should protect itself from these illegal demonstrations and conflict-inciting activities.”
The joint task force said, “Any force that acts illegally and those who try to coordinate and participate in the demonstrations are responsible for any damage caused” and warned that “legal action will be taken to ensure the peace and security of the citizens and the country.”
The task force has ordered that “the security forces in each region should provide the necessary monitoring and control to prevent illegal demonstrations from taking place in your area, as well as provide appropriate security protection for the church, the fathers and followers of the faith, and the people in general.”
