The villagers who escaped were forced to flee for their lives. At the time of writing, residents of Fite were not returning to the village.
Fiteko is located in Limu Galila Woreda, East Welega Zone, Oromia Region.
The BBC has been able to verify what happened in the village by using satellite imagery, examining photographs and video footage of the area, and talking to displaced people and those whose homes were burned.
